Homemade Savory Dog Biscuits [dogs, recipes]

A couple weeks ago I tried my hand at baking some homemade dog biscuits for my puppy, Petey. They were peanut butter-based and she loved them, but tonight I wanted to bake something more savory and less “treat-like,” so I came up with this simple recipe.

I did not have any whole wheat flour on hand (which seems to be a staple in most DIY dog biscuit recipes), so I improvised and used whole wheat bread instead. Like the last recipe, it has only five ingredients; I like to keep things simple.

5 slices whole wheat bread
2 eggs
1 clove garlic, chopped
½ can chicken broth (approximately 7 oz)
5 tablespoons parsley flakes

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs in a large mixing bowl and add chopped garlic and parsley. Break up the slices of bread into small pieces; add chicken broth and mix thoroughly by hand until mixture is the consistency of wet dog food. Add egg, garlic, and parsley mix and stir, integrating thoroughly.

Form mixture into shapes desired for treats. Bake for 20-25 minutes; let cool before giving to pooch.

Yields roughly 12 biscuits.

I’m glad to report they passed the Petey taste test!*

*The fact that these biscuits “passed” Petey’s taste test should be taken with a grain of salt; Petey is known to eat socks, acorns, sticks, and other bits of rubbish, so granted, most anything passes her “taste test.”
